RITA'S SHENANDOAH LOG CABIN
![]() I love this log cabin. It has sat in the box for at least a year and now I am finally well on my way. This is the basic dry fitting of the walls. They are heavily taped to make them rigid.
![]() To assemble the walls you can see how many clothespins I used for clamps. ![]() I've stained the interior while it was still open space. ![]() The second floor, railing and ladder have been added.
The window treatments are now in place. Above are the living room, kitchen and bedroom. The frames are also added and heavy clear plastic was used for glass in the windows. ![]() The porch railing and end braces finish the porch. The door is also in place. The sign identifies the cabin as being "Serenity Retreat". ![]() With the addition of the front roof the cabin is really shaping up. I had some trouble with the logs splitting apart, but it wasn't anything that didn't easily correct. ![]() ![]() The first floor with basics. These are good views of the curtains and the rugs. The rugs are all made from one of our favorite materials (washcloths). The kitchen has rick rack added to the ends for detail. The large area rug in the living room area has an appliqué glued to the center and a bit of lace for an edge. There is also a good shot of the fireplace. ![]() I added a wall partition to the second floor to make for some privacy in the bath area. There are 2 shelves on the wall, but they are barely visible because of the glare. They'll show up better when the room is done and there will be "stuff" on the shelves. ![]() This is the finished exterior. All the braces and trims are in place. You can also see the chimney through the roof. There is an Adirondack chair on the porch as well as a large piece of coal. The coal is my trademark on all my houses, a tribute to my Dad who worked in the coal mines. ![]() I have used a thin layer of snow (felt) for the landscape of this cabin. I always think of the new fallen snow as being serene and calming. It is just enough to turn the ground white and the heat in the cabin keeps it from accumulating on the roof. ![]() This side shot show 2 little bear cubs coming out of the trees to investigate. The storage shed out back is actually a birdhouse. It just went so well with the cabin itself. INDEX HOMES INTERIOR |
